December 4 – Holiday Poetry Contest
written by chompermom on Dec 03, 2009

Pinecones are brown, Christmas trees are green...
Calling all poets. Looking for funny, sentimental, cheesy, secular, religious, short, long, haiku, freeform, any category holiday/Christmas poetry. Any takers?
I don’t really do poetry, but I know a lot of you do! So don’t be shy. Comment with your poem and don’t forget to put your blog, website, Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, favorite charity or sports team in the website field! If you know of someone else who has written a great Christmas poem, tell us about that, too.
The Contest
Ok, and a little fun… I’ll choose the best poem. Whoever that is gets one of those 125 x 125 boxes on your right free for a month! Don’t have your own website? That’s fine. You can support your favorite charity, school, sports team, your buddy, your grandma. Whatever. So send some good stuff, and spread the word!

The Imperfect Perfect Night Before Christmas
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
not a creature was silent, not even the mouse.
The kids were all hopped up on candy; too excited to sleep,
so they drove their mom mad, wouldn’t even try to count sheep.
Try as she may Mom couldn’t calm the kids,
not a story, singing, or threats God forbid.
Santa would not come she said,
and still they would not even try to go to bed.
So she resorted to the last trick in her hat,
bribery, what would her mom say about that?
A desperate woman, who just wanted some quiet,
if she didn’t get it soon she may start a riot.
It worked like a charm and the kids were soon asleep,
their eyes were shut and they didn’t make a peep.
She filled all their stockings and placed the presents with care,
so the next morning her angels would have a lovely affair.
A mother’s job is not easy, but she wouldn’t trade it,
she loves every moment; every little tiny bit.

I just spotted a mistake
it is supposed to be “wanted some quiet” in the 3rd stanza.

Santa is coming,
From the North Pole,
With gifts of good tidings,
& peace for the soul
————————–
——-
The lights were twinkling,
On my Christmas tree,
& the children were blinking,
So sleepy that they be,
Mother in the kitchen,
Baking cookies to share,
& I in my study,
Asleep in my chair
———————————–
The stockings were hung with care & ease,
By the fire that I built so that Santa wouldn’t freeze,
I didn’t think of the problems to come,
If the fire flared up & burnt Santa’s bum

2000 years ago on that precious Holy Night,
The wise were on the go towards the star shinning brite,
The gifts were in their hands of Frankincense & Myrrh,
For the birth of the King & His death that would occur
